Hengshui City is located in the southeast of Hebei Province, bounded by north latitude11510 ′ ~11634 ′, with north latitude of 37 03 ′ ~ 38 23 ′. The total area is 88 15 square kilometers. It borders Dongguang County, wuqiao county City and Dezhou City in Shandong Province in the east, Shenze County and xinji city City in Shijiazhuang City in the west, Nangong City, Xinhe County and Wucheng County in Xingtai City, Shandong Province in the south, and anguo city, Boye County, Lixian County in Baoding City, Suning County, xian county and Botou City in Cangzhou City in the north. Taocheng District, where the municipal government is located, is 250km away from the capital Beijing in the north and119km away from the provincial capital Shijiazhuang in the west.
Hengshui has a long history. There was the Yellow River in ancient times, and now it belongs to Yanzhou, Hebei Province. Rao, Chang, Wucheng and Wuluo are the main fiefs of China. During the Spring and Autumn Period, most of them returned to the State of Jin. The Warring States period was the land of Yan and Zhao. After Qin Shihuang unified China in 22 1 BC, it belonged to Julu County. The Han Dynasty belonged to Jizhou Secretariat Department, which successively set up Guang Chuan, Xindu and Anping prefectures. Most counties and cities under its jurisdiction were established at this time. During the Three Kingdoms period, Jizhou was the territory of Wei. Jizhou moved from Xindu to Anping, Boling and Bohai. At the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty, the official state government moved to the county seat (now Jingxian County) and was renamed Jingzhou in 1265. Since then, it has been under the jurisdiction of Zhongshu Province, Shi Jing Province and Zhili Province until the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the territory is still divided by Hebei, Shenzhou and Jingzhou.
During the Three Kingdoms period, Yuan Shao stationed millions of troops in Jizhou to compete with Cao Cao. Dong Zhongshu, a great philosopher and master of Confucianism in the Western Han Dynasty, was born in Jingxian County, Hengshui.
