Guangzhou Automobile Group, formerly known as Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., was established in June 1997.

On June 28th, 2005, Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd., Wanxiang Group Co., Ltd., China Machinery Industry Group Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Iron and Steel Enterprise Group Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Changlong Hotel Group Co., Ltd. were co-sponsors, and the original Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. was transformed into a shareholding system.
