Overview of Wuxue Dialect
In terms of vocabulary, there are many ancient Chu words and many foreign words. Some contemporary linguists and experts attach great importance to the study of Wuxue dialect. 1948, the then Institute of History and Linguistics of Academia Sinica listed Wuxue as one of the investigation points in Mr. Wu Zongji's Investigation Report on Hubei Dialect. During the period of 1956, the language teaching and research group of Wuhan University conducted a general survey of dialects, and set up 16 survey points in Hubei, among which Wuxue was one. On 1958, Professor Boping Liu of Wuhan University wrote the article Tone Category and Tone Value of Guangji Dialect. From 65438 to 0959, Professor Zhan Bohui wrote a comparison between Guangji phonetics and Beijing phonetics.

Wuxue is located at the junction of Henan dialect and Gan dialect in Southwest Mandarin, Xiajiang Mandarin and Northern Mandarin, and some phonetic components and vocabulary choices are special, so it is difficult to classify them into the above dialects and sub-dialects.

Wuxue dialect is basically the same as northern dialect in vocabulary, but there are many differences and interesting places in word selection. Mainly manifested in: foreign dialects are mixed, and Wu, Chu and North and South are eclectic. Some initials retain the old pronunciation. For example, the ancient words such as "capital", "order", "street", "boundary", "ring", "harmony", "shoe" and "slack" are all reserved, except the word "Jia". This shows that it is consistent with the southwest dialect, but these words are the same as the adjacent Xiajiang Mandarin, Otawa Beijingyin, and the white tone is the same as the southwest dialect.

Although Wuxue dialect has some characteristics, it is not a dialect island, but a transitional dialect. It is a dialect at the junction of northern mandarin, southwest mandarin, Xiajiang mandarin and Gan dialect, and it is appropriate to belong to the Jianghuai dialect subregion, but according to its historical origin, it can also be called "Guangji Chu dialect". The areas where this dialect is spoken include not only the areas under the jurisdiction of Wuxue City, but also the Matou Town in Ruichang, Jiangxi Province and parts of Chengzi Town in Jiujiang County on the south bank of the Yangtze River.

In this dialect area, there are also phonetic differences. According to phonetic features, Wuxue dialect can be further divided into east phonetic region and west phonetic region. In addition, there is a strong sound area and two vowel bands. Dongsheng District includes Yuchuan, Huaqiao, Shifosi and Longping. The western sound zone includes Mei Chuan, Wang Si, Yangcheng and Wuxue. Shawufang Music Zone is located at the southern end of Yinxiyin District, from Siwangxinmiao Bridge on the south side of the west bank of Wu Shan Lake to the sand zone on the outskirts of Wuxue Town. To the west, the tongue rolling belt is located in the cast iron furnace and Zhangbaike area of Tianjia Town, Yangcheng District. The east rolling tongue sound belt is located in Shadun, Tongshipai, Oxcart and Song Xiang in the east sound area.
