2. Different historical background: Yumenguan was built in the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, which was the gateway to the western regions in the Han Dynasty; Jiayuguan was built in the Ming Dynasty, which is the starting point of the western end of the Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty.
3. Different architectural styles: Yumenguan site is mainly rammed earth buildings with a small scale; Jiayuguan is a relatively complete masonry castle with walls, towers and watchtowers.
4. Different functions: Yumenguan is mainly used to defend Xiongnu and is an important checkpoint on the Silk Road; Jiayuguan played a role in defending the nomadic people in the northwest during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
