There are 12 townships in Yanshan County, namely Yanshan Town, Bianwu Township, Wangshu Town, Qingyun Town, Xiaoying Township, Yangji Township, Changzhuang Township, Mengdian Township, Hanji Town, Xiaozhuang Township, Shengfo Township and Qiantong Town.

Today's Yanshan Mountains are under the jurisdiction of the Western Zhou Dynasty, which belongs to Maiqiu City of Qi State at the turn of Qi State and Yan State during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. The junction of Qin (now Yang Er Zhuang, Huanghua County) and Yuci (now Shentou Town, Jinling County).

Qin Shihuang was founded in 22 BC1year (the 26th year of the first emperor), so he ruled in Yang Er Zhuang Town, Huanghua City, Hebei Province, belonging to Qi County, and later he was divided into Hebei North County from Qi County. In the 13th year of Jianwu in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 37), Liu Xian County was revoked and merged into Zhangwu County.

In the fifth year of Emperor Gaozu (202 BC), Liu Bang was founded in the Western Han Dynasty, belonging to Bohai County in Youzhou. The county government was originally located near the old town of Zhao, 20 miles southeast of Yanshan County.
