There are five literary awards, which are mainly awarded to the best novel (especially American theme), the best script, the best collection of poems, the best American historical works and the best autobiography or biography works with the theme of enthusiastic public welfare and patriotism.

Starting from 1943, there is a music composition award.

The total prize money of the above awards is $500,000, which is awarded once a year in May.

Tarkington, Walter, Cather, Burlington, Booker, Steinbeck, Faulkner, Potter, welty, Harry, etc. I won the Pulitzer Prize for the first time since 19 18.

Pulitzer Prize for Literature has always been regarded as an honor by American writers, but there are exceptions. Sinclair lewis refused to accept the prize with 1926, and William saroyan refused to accept the prize with 1940 to show contempt.
