Fayuan Temple is the oldest existing temple in Beijing. It was established in the 19th year of Zhenguan (A.D. 645) by Emperor Taizong Li Shimin himself, which is also rare in the temple series in China.
It was not until the change of dynasty in Wu Meiniang after Emperor Ze that Fayuan Temple was finally completed in the first year of Long Live Tian Tong (AD 696), and was named Benjamin Zhong Temple by Wu Zetian, which became the historical witness of the first change of dynasty.
Before Wu Zetian died, she automatically abolished the Zhou Dynasty and returned the political power to the Li family. Wu Shi and others are not convinced and want to make trouble. Relying on a part of the imperial army, Li Longji launched a palace coup, cleared the obstacles and ascended the throne, known as Tang Huangming in history.
After Li Longji came to power, Yang Guifei and Yang's family were favored, and they were extremely dissatisfied inside and outside the court, which led to the "Anshi Rebellion".
An Lushan and Shi Siming succeeded in insurrection, and Fayuan Temple suffered immediately. When An Lushan came to Beijing, he felt uncomfortable when he saw Fayuan Temple. He immediately made a "pardon" and changed his name to Shuntian Temple.
Whose paradise? Damn it, An Lushan! However, his "paradise" is short-lived. Within a few years of usurping power, the court where they once settled down was finished, and the world was in chaos.
Later dynasties, the temple changed its name several times, as if it was wrong not to change its name. Sorry for their ancestors, the temple was "suffixed" with several different names, all of which caught up with online posts. Anyone who goes on stage has to change his name and post.
In the second year of Ming Dynasty (AD 1437), it was basically normal. The court did not intervene and did not use the money from the state treasury. Instead, the famous monk Xiangrong built the temple. However, this monk is also a layman. He also changed his name and changed Shuntian Temple into Chongfu Temple. He wants to enjoy himself here.
After the Ming Dynasty perished and the Qing Dynasty entered Beijing, the temple was renamed once, and now it is called Fayuan Temple. This name has been used until the 12th year of Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty (1734).
Fayuan Temple is a traditional Buddhist temple of Han nationality, which is similar to some magnificent temples in China in structure and architectural style. Basically, it consists of the mountain gate, the Bell and Drum Tower, the Heavenly King Hall, the Ursa Major Hall, the People's Desk, the Big Ben Hall, the Tibetan Classics Pavilion, and the East and West Cloisters.
Among them, the People's Desk is a place where historical relics are preserved, in which the original stone carvings and classic buildings of past dynasties are preserved, the most important of which is Ode to the Dirty Light Tower in the Tang Dynasty and the relic letter of the Bodhisattva in the underground palace of Yanjing Daminzi Temple in the Liao Dynasty.
On the gable outside Fujian Central Taiwan, there are remnants of General Yunhui's Monument, Eight Poems of Fayuan and Heart Sutra in the Tang Dynasty, all of which are important materials for studying the history of Fayuan Temple.
Fayuan Temple is a famous temple in history, but in the Song Dynasty, it became a living witness that Daikin invaded the Song Dynasty and insulted the royal family and state power of the Song Dynasty!
Song Qinzong, instigated by treacherous court officials and eunuchs, "uses personal expedition". Because of the betrayal of the personal eunuch, he was surrounded by the army of Da Xu Jinguo, then captured by others, and then imprisoned in Fayuan Temple, and suffered humiliation! After being put back, he did not think about repentance, and once again messed up the court, which made the Da Song Dynasty in a precarious situation.
In the 13th year of Jin Dading (A.D. 1 173), Fayuan Temple was temporarily converted into an examination room of the imperial court, where the examination of Jurchen Jinshi was specially organized and planned, which was a meaningful use.
From the Yuan Dynasty to the 26th year of Yuan Dynasty (A.D. 1289), the Song Dynasty, which lived for a long time, finally came to an end. Goodbye, completely replaced by the Yuan Dynasty established by Mongols. Xie Fangde, unwilling to give in and determined not to surrender, was arrested by Mongols and put into Fayuan Temple, which became "Qincheng Prison" again. Xie Fangde was imprisoned here and starved to death here.
1949, new China was founded, and the * * * production party took over Beiping peacefully, making its capital and changing its name to Beijing. Fayuan Temple was rebuilt in 1955, and is now the site of China Buddhist College, China Buddhist Library and Cultural Relics Museum.
