Ni (1702- 173 1), a native of Suqian, Zhejiang Province, lost his father at the age of five, that is, he lived with his mother at the home of his uncle (a local literary celebrity) Fan Zhengxi. At the age of twelve, she was familiar with hundreds of books about classics and history. When I grew up, I was proficient in all the works and poems of the pre-Qin and Han Dynasties, the Wei, Jin and Six Dynasties, and the Tang and Song Dynasties.
