The Historical Origin of Dengzhou Prefecture
Penglai is the seat of the state government after the mid-Ming Dynasty. So when it comes to Penglai, the old name, people often confuse it with Gudengzhou. But if you carefully study the ins and outs of Gooden, few people can make it clear.

Some scholars have explained that the name "Deng" originated very early, and the word "Dong Deng" was found in the inscription of Little Chen Gui. This "little minister's coffin" is generally regarded as an artifact made after Zhou Chengwang's "Uncle Mao's father" led the netherworld to conquer Dongyi. The inscription on this artifact is to the effect that Dongyi rebelled. Uncle Mao led the Eighth Division of Yin to attack Dongyi, headed east, attacked Haimei, and returned home in triumph. He was rewarded for conquering Dongyi five times and getting some shellfish. The east recorded in the inscription of this artifact is mostly considered to refer to the hilly areas in the eastern part of Qi, while the sea wheat refers to the barbarians on the seashore, or the east is the seashore. It can be seen that this "Deng" is an ancient place name in the late Shang Dynasty and early Zhou Dynasty. But in the Book of History? There is no record of Dengzhou in Gong Yu. Before the name of Dengzhou appeared, Dengzhou site belonged to "Yi" or "Dongyi" in Qingzhou. In the Spring and Autumn Period, it became the site of Lai Ziguo again. During the Warring States period, this place was incorporated into the State of Qi. History: "In the sixth year of Duke Xiang of Lu (567 BC), Yilai was destroyed (there is the capital of Laizi in the southeast of Huangxian County)." After Qin unified the whole country, the whole country was divided into 36 counties, and the government originally belonged to a piece of land in Huangxian County, Qixian County. The Han Dynasty belongs to Donglai County of Qingzhou, the Western Jin Dynasty belongs to Donglai County of Qingzhou, the Northern and Southern Dynasties belong to Donglai County of Liu Song, the Yuan and Wei Dynasties belong to Dongmou County, the Northern Qi Dynasty belongs to Donglai County, and the Sui Dynasty belongs to Donglai County. The name Dengzhou first appeared in the early years of Tang Dynasty, and it was founded in the fourth year of Tang Wude (62 1).

As can be seen from the above account, Gudengzhou was established only in the Tang Dynasty, and there was no Dengzhou before the Tang Dynasty. The specific time of establishing Dengzhou is also different in some historical documents, such as the Book of the New Tang Dynasty, which is the same as the above. However, Yuanhe County Records said that Dengzhou was scheduled for the first year of Tang Wude, four years earlier than the above. Which of these two theories is accurate, and the academic views are not consistent, so we have to coexist.

Regarding the location of Dengzhou, people often say that Gudengzhou moved from Mu Ping to Penglai, which gives people an illusion that Gudengzhou was originally set in Mu Ping. In fact, Deng Gufu was originally not in Mu Ping, but in Wendeng. Speaking of the origin of Deng Gufu, there is another story. In the east of Wendeng City, there is a mountain called Wendeng Mountain, which is called Wenshan for short. Although this mountain is less than 100 meters above sea level and less than 1.5 kilometers in circumference, it is a place visited by Qin Shihuang. According to legend, after Qin Shihuang unified China, he made many voyages to the West, including two voyages to Wendeng in the 28th year (2 19) and the 37th year (2 10). When he visited Wendeng, he called the literati to climb the hill on the left side of the city to praise the merits. Since then, people have called this mountain climbing. Later, in 568 AD, a county was built here, called Wendeng County, and the state established in the early Tang Dynasty was also called Dengzhou.

In the first year of Zhenguan in Tang Dynasty (627), Dengzhou, where Wendeng was established first, was removed and several counties were returned to Laizhou. In the first year of Tang Ruyi (692), Mu Ping, Huangxian and Wendeng broke away from the counties under the jurisdiction of Laizhou and re-established Dengzhou. There is a 65-year gap between the country's withdrawal and its re-establishment. The re-established Dengzhou College is not Wendeng, but Mu Ping. The re-established Dengzhou only existed for 15 years, and moved to Penglai Town in the third year of Tang Shenlong (707), which was then under the jurisdiction of Huang County. Penglai Town, established in the early Tang Dynasty, was upgraded to Penglai County due to the presence of state-owned yamen in Penglai.

From Tang Shenlong's three-year state administration to Penglai to 19 13, Deng Gu's state administration has existed in Penglai for over 1200 years.

It is worth mentioning that Deng Gufu was a state from the early Tang Dynasty to the early Ming Dynasty, and it was not until the ninth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1367) that it was upgraded to a state. The concepts of state and government are different. In the book Ming Shi Lu, I mentioned the reason why Dengzhou was promoted to the government. "At that time, both Dengzhou and Laizhou were near the sea, which was the main road between Korea and Japan. If we don't build a government and increase our army, this is not enough. " (Cai Yuxi)
