According to the report, the data cited by the European Commission show that since 20 14, the EU has paid about 2.7 billion euros for Turkey's entry into Europe. From 20 14 to 20 16, Turkey received 3.3 billion euros in funds from various fields in the EU, not counting the 6 billion euros provided by the EU within the framework of the refugee agreement. However, Turkey only "returned" about 600 million euros of "participation fees" in EU affairs.
It is reported that Turkey applied to join the EU on 1987, obtained the candidate qualification on 1999, and started the accession negotiations in 2005, but it has not yet joined. According to the German newspaper Le Monde, this is because there are huge differences between the EU and Turkey, including but not limited to domestic democracy and human rights issues after Turkey's constitutional referendum.
Some experts said that among all non-EU countries, Turkey is the biggest beneficiary.
