Lincoln Memorial is a memorial hall in memory of American President Lincoln. It is located on the west side of national mall in Washington, D.C., in front of the entrance of Arlington Memorial Bridge, in line with Congress and Washington Monument. Between the Memorial Hall and the Washington Monument, there are two reflection pools 1 * * * 2292 feet long. There are also Vietnam War Memorial, Korean War Memorial and World War II Memorial near Lincoln Memorial. The Lincoln Memorial Hall is managed by the National Park Service and is open to the public free of charge all year round (closed from 8 am to midnight, 65438+February 25th).
1923 Henry bacon design gold award scheme issued by American national architecture association; 1867 In March, two years after Lincoln's assassination, the US Congress passed a bill to build a memorial hall. 19 13 years, architect Henry bacon put forward the design scheme. February 19 15, Lincoln's birthday broke ground and was completed on May 30th. 1922. The completion ceremony was presided over by 29 Chairman Warren Gama. From the passage of the bill to its final completion, after 55 years, there were 12 presidents. For this reason, designer Henry Bacon won 1923 the design gold medal awarded by American National Architecture Association. This is the highest award of his career.
The whole building is rectangular, about 58 meters long, 36 meters wide and 25 meters high. This is a classical building, made of marble in the style of the ancient Parthenon in Greece. Thirty-six white marble columns surround the memorial hall, symbolizing the 36 States owned by Lincoln when he was president. The names of these States are engraved on the lintel of each colonnade.
