Dunhuang historical events
In A.D. 1900, Taoist King discovered treasures in Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, which attracted many western scholars to visit and understand. At the same time, he also bought a lot of treasures from Taoist Wang, so that the treasures of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes were reduced to overseas and folk, and some foreigners also destroyed the pictures on them badly. In a word, the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang suffered a catastrophe, which made China people incalculable lost treasure. The treasures of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes are priceless. The earliest Mogao Grottoes were established in 16. It can be said that the culture of Mogao Grottoes has a very long history. A book in the Tang Dynasty records that in 366 AD, a monk experienced this mountain and felt as if he had seen ten thousand buddhas, so he cut a hole in the rock wall of this mountain, and then a Zen master went to practice in this hole. Desert grottoes? It means high in the desert, and of course there are other sayings. In the Northern Wei Dynasty, the rulers at that time believed in Buddhism very much, so some princes and nobles began to build grottoes in this place and developed the Mogao Grottoes to a large scale. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, with the prosperity of the Silk Road, the Mogao Grottoes became more prosperous during this period. At the same time, people in the Tang Dynasty believed and respected Buddhism more because of Xuanzang's learning from the scriptures. During the reign of Wu Zetian, there were more than 1000 caves. It can be said that the Tang Dynasty was the most prosperous period of the Mogao Grottoes. In the Northern Song Dynasty, the culture of Mogao Grottoes was gradually forgotten, with maintenance as the main task, and few new caves were built. By the Yuan Dynasty, the rulers basically stopped digging the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, and the Mogao Grottoes were even more forgotten. During the Ming Dynasty, Dunhuang became a frontier of nomadic people. In the Qianlong period, the Mogao Grottoes were gradually picked up by people and began to develop slowly. However, due to the corruption of the Qing government at that time and the Taoist king who guarded the Mogao Grottoes, these treasures were finally exported to foreigners, which made the treasures scattered overseas and among the people, and the murals were also destroyed in large numbers. In a word, this is a great loss for China. We should not forget these experiences and try to send the treasure back to China.
