No.1 Middle School was formerly known as Dongshan Academy in the middle of Qing Dynasty. In the 24th year of Jiaqing (18 19), Tang Wenzao, a magistrate of a county, renovated the Han Temple and changed it into a place for children to study, called Dongshan Academy. In the 24th year of Guangxu (1898), Qiu, a patriot, a famous educator and poet, was appointed as the president of Dongshan Academy. Qiu presided over the academy for two years, vigorously advocated new learning and saved the country through education. He completely broke the old-style academy's mode of emphasizing only Confucian classics, introduced western learning in an all-round way, and advocated all-round development of morality, intelligence and physique, and the style of study was one of the new ones, which was the beginning of new learning in Chaoyang.

In the 30th year of Guangxu (1904), Dongshan Academy was transformed into the official Dongshan Higher Primary School with a new academic system.

In the fourth year of the Republic of China (19 15), Dongshan Senior Middle School was officially transformed into Chaoyang County Middle School, also known as Dongshan Middle School. In the thirty-first year of the Republic of China (1942), the simple normal school and the first junior high school at the city and county level (formerly Wudu Middle School) merged into Chaoyang County-level Joint Middle School. As the county seat was occupied by the Japanese army, the school was located in Guiyu Renxiang, with a junior high school and a normal department. In the thirty-fifth year of the Republic of China (1946), after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the county-level joint middle school moved back to the county seat and took classes in Chenghuang Temple, Sima Temple and Shikuilin Temple. The following year, it was renamed Chaoyang No.1 Middle School.

Starting from the second half of 1956, No.1 Middle School stopped enrolling junior high school students and changed its name to Chaoyang Senior High School. During the seventeen years from 1950 to 1966, under the leadership of Chaoyang County Committee and County People's Government of the Communist Party of China, No.1 Middle School implemented the educational policy of all-round development of morality, intelligence and physique, showing a thriving atmosphere.
