The charming past life of Wugang braised tofu
Roasted tofu is a famous dish in Baoqing, Hunan Province, with a history of more than 2,500 years. Its native place is Wugang City, Shaoyang City, a county-level city with a long history, which was founded in the 1990s. With the title of Wugang Ludu, braised tofu has become a national geographical indication product of Wugang City.

According to legend, in ancient times, there was a doctor at the foot of Yunshan, a scenic spot in southern Chu, Wugang. He is very kind and receives little money to treat the poor. To this end, patients often give him some snacks such as tofu and eggs. One year, there was a plague in the area. In order to save the patient, he set up a pan to decoct medicine at home. One day, he went out to see a doctor and asked his blind mother to help him decoct medicine. Mother accidentally poured a few pieces of dried bean curd into the medicine pot and cooked it with the medicine. It was not until the medicine was boiled and distributed to the patients that his mother found out. People are afraid that tofu is poisonous, so they quickly put these tofu aside and prepare to throw it away. His mother loved these tofu, so she secretly put it away and ate it as a dish. As soon as his mother ate this tofu, she felt more delicious, more fragrant and smoother than the original.

At this time, the doctor carefully analyzed the prescription of the day and found that this kind of tofu has the function of detoxifying the human body, so he began to specially make marinated tofu for the patient to treat the disease and nourish it after recovery. After eating, patients feel that it has a good effect on treatment and physical recovery.

Later, the doctor told this recipe to the poor family. According to this method, they make tofu for their own consumption. Braised tofu is becoming popular in the local area.

There is also a legend that in the Ming Dynasty, the chef of a royal mansion in Wang Zhen, Wugang brought the secret recipe of braised tofu to the people, and it was popularized among the people, so that ordinary people could also enjoy royal food.

With the practice of later generations, the makers of marinated tofu slowly modified the formula of marinated tofu, forming a special taste feature, namely, fragrant, cool and smooth, and having the effects of expelling toxins, expelling wind and strengthening the body.
