Wu Qingyuan in his later years.

Go master Wu Qingyuan, 1928 was born in China. He came to the Japanese chess house as a child prodigy of 14 years old and has been playing Japanese chess for more than 50 years. As the first chess player, the King of Ten Pieces and the Chess Saint of Showa, he is well deserved. He accepted two apprentices in his life, Lin Haifeng and Rui Naiwei. Although Wu Qingyuan became a Japanese citizen, he returned to China many times after bidding farewell to chess in 1984, hoping to contribute to world peace and Sino-Japanese friendship. It can be seen that he has a China heart.

Wu Qingyuan (19 14—20 14) was born in a salt merchant's family in Minhou County, Fujian Province (now Fuzhou City). His father Wu Yi studied law and politics in Japan and loved Go. His mother is the eldest daughter of Zhang, the governor of Fengtian in the Republic of China. When I was young, the Wu Qingyuan family defected to his grandfather and moved to Beijing. My grandfather bought a villa in the British Concession in Tianjin. 1920, in order to escape the direct Anhui War, my mother took three brothers, Wu Qingyuan, to live with her grandparents in Tianjin for a period of time.

After returning home, Wu Yi worked as a freelancer under Duan, and often gambled with others, betting two silver dollars each game. Wu Qingyuan has an extraordinary talent for Go, and his chess score is unforgettable. Because I was sick when I was a child, I couldn't do strenuous exercise and had nothing else to do, so the level of Go improved rapidly.

On one occasion, Wuyi played chess with Lin, a famous chess player in Fuzhou. The bet was five silver dollars, and Wu Qingyuan was there. Lin is better at chess and has the upper hand. Wu Yi was helpless, so he ran out of the toilet and wanted to take countermeasures. After a long time, Lin became impatient. Wu Qingyuan said, "Why don't I take more steps for my father?" Lin smiled and said, "Will your father recognize you if you lose?" Wu Qingyuan said, "If I lose, ask him!"

However, Wu Qingyuan turned defeat into victory. Lin is not satisfied. He wants to play another game with Wu Qingyuan and bet ten silver dollars. As a result, the name of "Go prodigy" lost to Lin spread like wildfire again. Later, Wu Qingyuan went in and out of Haifengxuan Teahouse in Wool Hutong, Xuanwumennei Street, and played chess with first-class players such as Wang Yunfeng, Gu Shuiru and Liu Dihuai who often gathered here.

Wuyi died in 1924, and Wu Qingyuan was only 10 years old. Duan specially invited to play chess. Duan thinks that his chess skill has reached the level of seven paragraphs. Wu Qingyuan dare not win the first game. Duan said, "I'm only happy if you can beat me." They played two more games, and Wu Qingyuan won both. Duan couldn't lose chess, so he left in a fit of pique. But after that, he gave 100 yuan of living expenses every month, which shows Duan's love for talents.

Wu Qingyuan, led by his fellow countrymen in Fujian, went to a Japanese-run club to play chess. He competed with a Japanese in the early stage and won very hard, which attracted the attention of Youmin Yamazaki, a Japanese who runs artworks in Beijing. Yamazaki became familiar with Jie Jie, an important figure in Japanese chess institute, and informed Jie Jie of the news that "there is a talented boy of Go in Beijing", and actively contacted and promoted Wu Qingyuan's eastward crossing to Japan.

1927, the famous Japanese Go player Inoue Takashi Pingwu came to Beijing to play chess with Wu Qingyuan. In the second game, Wu Qingyuan won three games and Inoue Takashi drew; In the first game, Wu Qingyuan won and tied. Chess was sent back to Japan, and Jiezi Kenzo became interested in this prodigy, so he won a two-year monthly living expenses inspection in 200 yuan for Wu Qingyuan and invited Wu Qingyuan to Japan. 1928 10, Wu Qingyuan traveled from Beijing to Tianjin, took the Japanese ship "Chang 'an Maru" at Tanggu Pier to study in Japan, and then stayed in Japan to play chess.

1939 to 1956 was the heyday of Wu Qingyuan, which was called "Wu Qingyuan era". He defeated the seven super players in Japan ten times and knocked all his opponents down until no one could fight. His contributions to Weiqi are as follows: firstly, he put forward a new layout theory; Secondly, he put forward the Wu Qingyuan formula represented by avalanche; Thirdly, he put forward the concept of "2 1 Century Go". He advocates the harmony of yin and yang in chess, keeping the same, and paying attention to the balance of potential field. He believes that the ultimate goal of playing chess is to appreciate the perfect and harmonious way and pursue the perfection of chess and life.

Due to illness and other reasons, it was not until February 1950 that Wu Qingyuan was officially awarded Jiuduan by the Japanese Chess Institute. In fact, all the nine paragraphs in Japan are no match for him. 196 1 year, Wu Qingyuan suffered a car accident and tuberculosis. After that, he retired from various competitions and announced his retirement on 1984.

Wu Qingyuan and Tianjin have a deep relationship. At the beginning, he crossed the sea from Tianjin Tanggu Wharf to Japan, which he will never forget. 1935, Wu Qingyuan returned to Tianjin. He met Zhang Boling, president of Nankai University. Zhang Boling's attitude is very cold, because Wu Qingyuan's kimono dress aroused his disgust. Wu Qingyuan also visited Luo Longji, who lived in the British Concession, Pan Fu, then Prime Minister of Beiyang, and Li Yutang, President of Yongbao, and played a game of chess with Puyi's cousin at Zhonghui Hotel.

1995, Wu Qingyuan, aged 8/kloc-0, returned to China again. On the morning of May 16 10: 30, he took the train from Beijing to Tianjin and got off at Tianjin Railway Station. He was accompanied by his wife and son, and three reporters from NHK TV in Japan. He was greeted at the station by his second brother, Wu Jinglue, a retired professor of China Academy of Medical Sciences.

In Tianjin, Wu Qingyuan revisited Tanggu Wharf, went to Xiaoyanglou, where my grandfather lived in British Concession 17 Road (near Xinhua Gymnasium now), and also went to the former site of binjiang road Yongbao Museum, which he 1935 visited after coming to Tianjin.

He brought some exquisite folding fans with wooden handles from Japan and asked his second brother to give them to relatives and friends. On the fan, there are four characters "Qingshan is not old" written by him with a brush, with his signature and seal. Mr. and Mrs. Wu Qingyuan only stayed in Tianjin for one night. They returned to Beijing by train the next afternoon, and then went to Fuzhou, his birthplace, to find their roots. (Text: He Yuxin)
