The Historical Background of the Battle of Song Dynasty Destroying Northern Han Dynasty
After the establishment of the Song Dynasty, in order to eradicate the separatist forces and complete the great cause of reunifying the whole country, Zhao Kuangyin, Song Taizu and their main counselor Zhao Pu, referring to Ping Bian Ce presented by Wang Pu, a doctor of northern medicine in the second year of Xiande (955), formulated a unified war strategy of "first south and then north, first easy and then difficult", which was to annex the separatist regime in the south, then concentrate on dealing with Liao, a strong enemy in the north, and eliminate the northern Han after gaining abundant human and material resources in the south.

However, relying on the support of Liao, the Northern Han often harassed the Song Dynasty, and the conflict between the two sides never stopped. Although Song Taizu determined the unified policy of "south first and then north", in the process of pacifying the southern countries, Song Jun often attacked the northern Han in order to stop the attack of the northern Han, and launched several attacks in an attempt to make progress.
