After 1949, the eastern part of Laojie was the seat of bacheng town Party Committee and government, and Laojie became the political, economic and cultural center of the town. At the same time, state-owned Zhong Bai Company, tobacco and alcohol monopoly companies, banks, credit cooperatives, joint clinics, supply and marketing cooperatives, department stores and non-staple food wholesale departments have successively settled in Old Street. In the 1980s, with the development of small towns in Bacheng, the town party committee and government moved to Xincheng Road, shops and residents expanded southward, and the once prosperous old streets gradually became deserted and depressed.
Bacheng Old Street 1997 was approved by Kunshan Municipal People's Government as a cultural relic protection unit in Kunshan. In April, 2005, the Party Committee and Government of bacheng town listed the renovation of Guzhen Old Street as a practical project to benefit the people, and established bacheng town Construction and Development Co., Ltd. to be responsible for the renovation of ancient buildings on both sides of Guzhen Old Street in the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. Based on the principle of restoring the old streets as much as possible, He Chun noodle restaurant, Longyun teahouse, painting and calligraphy garden, Laojie restaurant and Yangcheng Hotel have a long history.
