After Qin unified the Central Plains, Qin Shihuang ordered the unification of characters. Subsequently, Li Si absorbed the advantages of tadpole-shaped characters prevailing in Qilu and other places at that time on the basis of the big seal script widely used by Qin people during the Warring States Period, and created a new character with even and neat shape and concise strokes, called "Qin Zhuan", also known as "small seal script", as the official standard character, and at the same time abolished other variant characters.

Official script is to change the brushwork of seal script from round to square, which is more simplified in structure. After Qin unified the six countries, there were many political affairs, and the writing speed of seal script was too slow to adapt to the busy government affairs writing. So a kind of writing with square folding pen instead of official seal was produced, which was called official script. The official script of the Qin dynasty was called Qin official script, and later it was published in the Han dynasty.
Until the Eastern Han Dynasty, great changes have taken place in the official script, with flat structure, vigorous strokes, more neat and exquisite, forming a unique font of official script in the Han Dynasty. Han Li's writing style is rich and varied, which has influenced and promoted the formation of regular script and other styles. Until now, official script is still a commonly used font and exists as a calligraphy art.
