The history of modern critics
Modern Review was founded in192465438+February, which is a weekly magazine of Endeavour founded by Hu Shi. It is generally believed that Modern Review is a continuation of Endeavour Weekly, and the professors of "Modern Review School" are also closely related to Hu Shi. However, Endeavour Weekly mainly comments on politics, while Modern Review is basically a publication focusing on academic culture. What caused the conflict was the gossip of Xi Ying (played by Chen Yuan) published in the 25th issue of Modern Review (1). Later, when I published the episode, I added a title called "Drawing a Toilet". Anyone who reads this article can easily see that Chen Yuan's position is not in favor of students and thinks that they are "making too much trouble". There are two reasons. One is that "students in the same department posted two opposite notices at the same time", that is, students disagreed, suggesting that only a few people opposed the principal; Second, "students guard the school gate", and the principal can't hold a meeting in the school. "It's not like it" and "the face of education will be lost". In the view of these professors of Chen Yuan, schools should have a "look" and a fixed order. For example, students must study in a proper way and obey their teachers. Now, it is indecent for students to resist and expel the principal. The "education authorities" have to "clean up" and "like a stinking toilet, everyone has the obligation to clean up", which is a bit. Behind this lies an educational idea of these professors, that is, to use the power of the principal and the "authorities" to maintain the established order of the school and to take strict "rectification" measures. On the other hand, in the eyes of Professor Chen Yuan, student unrest is a kind of "mass autocracy", and it is necessary to "say a few words of justice for those who are oppressed by mass autocracy (here, of course, it refers to the principal Yang Yinyu)". We can really see the different positions of two professors here: in the view of Lu Xun, a rebellious professor who insists on "the weak, the young and the weak", this is the principal's oppression of students, and Lu Xun said it more seriously, this is "murdering students in a glass of wine"; And those professors who insist on the position of "superior, senior and elite" and take maintaining order as their own responsibility think that this is a student riot and the tyranny of the masses over the principal. The different attitudes of government departments towards students, principals and principals have caused the differences and divisions between the two types of professors in Peking University. In a sense, this is normal. Once the student movement happens, the teachers in the school will have different attitudes.
