Why is Chengdu called "Rong" for short?
"Rong" is the abbreviation of Chengdu, which originated in the Five Dynasties and Ten Countries. Meng Changjun, the Emperor of the Later Shu Dynasty, favored hibiscus flowers (hibiscus mutabilis) and ordered the people to plant hibiscus trees on the city walls. When the flowers bloom, Chengdu is called "40 Li Splendid", so Chengdu is also called "Furong City" for short. Many social materials related to Chengdu adopt the title of "Rong". Such as Shanghai-Han Rong High-speed Railway, Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway and Xiamen-Chengdu Expressway.

Extended data:

1On May 26th, 983, the 8th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Ninth People's Congress of Chengdu decided to officially name the hibiscus flower as the city flower of Chengdu. Chengdu will naturally become a "Rongcheng".
