Yangcheng Kiln in Shanxi Ding Yao System
Yangcheng Kiln was once famous for burning Yangcheng jars. Its history is rarely mentioned in the literature. In the past two years, Shanxi Ceramic History Compilation Group conducted a general survey and found a kiln site between Dongguan Waiyao kilns in Yangcheng County. Yangcheng Kiln in Song Dynasty is mainly made of white porcelain, and there are also small figurines with white glaze and black color in the specimens. White porcelain is mainly plates, bowls and other utensils, with folded plates, which are obviously imitations. A large number of vessels with cylinder covers produced by Ding Kiln were also found here. There are two kinds of lids in the specimen, one is carved chrysanthemum petals, the other is plain, with a flat edge and a small button at the top, which is the same as the characteristics of Ding kiln. The porcelain tires of Yangcheng kiln are gray, and in order to increase whiteness, they are all covered with a layer of white cosmetic soil, which is basically the same as the similar utensils of Cizhou kiln in Henan and Hebei. The kiln worker's tire soil is white, and there is no need to apply white makeup soil. This is the difference between the two. In terms of firing method, some white porcelain of Yangcheng Kiln is packed with saggers in a single piece, some are stacked with five Zhi Ding, and the bowls are mostly marked with Zhi Ding. Zhi Ding is bigger than other porcelain kilns in Shanxi, which is a major feature of Yangcheng Kiln.
