History of Wuzhou River
There is a "special" city between Guangdong and Guangxi, which belongs to Guangxi, but the urban architectural style, people's living habits, language, economy and culture are more like Guangdong. The people speak Cantonese and eat Cantonese food, which seems to be "out of place" with Guangxi.

This city is Wuzhou. Some people say that Wuzhou was abandoned by Guangdong, but they "despise" Guangxi, so they are in an awkward position. Do you think so?

Wuzhou is better than most cities in Guangxi economically, but there is a gap with Guangdong. With its superior geographical advantages, it has been a waterway transportation hub from Central China to the Pearl River Delta since ancient times. The Xijiang River in the upper reaches of the Pearl River starts in Wuzhou, and Gui Jiang and Jiang Xun meet in the center of Wuzhou to form Xijiang River, which is also the mother river of the people of Guangdong and Guangxi.

Wuzhou is located in the geographical center of Guangdong and Guangxi. Wuzhou has been the political and cultural center of Lingnan for a long time in ancient times. In the Han Dynasty, a large number of Han people lived in Wuzhou, north of Nanling, which became the center of the influence of Central Plains civilization on Lingnan. Han Chinese and Lingnan aborigines blended with each other, becoming the birthplace of Guangfu clan, and also an important birthplace of Cantonese and Lingnan culture.

Qin Shihuang cut through the Lingqu, unified Lingnan, and set up Guilin, Nanhai and Xiang Jun. After that, Zhao Tuo, the general of the State of Qin, became independent in Lingnan, built Nanyue and made Panyu its capital, which is today's Guangzhou. In the sixth year of the Western Han Dynasty (BC 165438+ BC 0 1), South Vietnam was wiped out by the wise Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. In order to effectively control Lingnan, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty moved the political center to Wuzhou, which belonged to Guangxin County of Cangwu County at that time.

Guangxin means "Guang Buen Xin", which means strengthening control and calming people's hearts. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty moved the center of Lingnan from Guangzhou (then Panyu) to Wuzhou, because Wuzhou was already in the geographical center of Guangdong and Guangxi, and because of the water system. In Wuzhou, the Pearl River and many rivers in hundreds of thousands of mountains in Guangxi can be effectively connected, ensuring the close ties between Guangdong and Guangxi and the Central Plains, thus realizing the complete reunification of China.

It was this strategy of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty that made Wuzhou occupy an important position in history, made Guangdong and Guangxi integrate into the core of China culture, and formed Lingnan culture originating from Wuzhou. However, after all, history abandoned the five continents. At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the political and economic centers of Guangdong and Guangxi returned to Guangzhou, which is closer to the sea. However, Lingnan culture spread to other parts of Guangxi with Wuzhou as the center, which accelerated the process of civilization in Guangxi.

Since the Ming Dynasty, Wuzhou has been included in Guangxi for the sake of economic development, which means that Wuzhou has belonged to Guangdong for more than a thousand years, which is why people in Wuzhou feel that they are "Cantonese" today, and that feeling is too deep to give up. Therefore, the language, culture and customs of Wuzhou are the same as those of Guangdong.

The saying that food is eaten in Wuzhou has a long history. Wuzhou people's diet has a strong Cantonese flavor, paying attention to color, fragrance and taste. Wuzhou people's habit of drinking morning tea is most similar to that of Guangdong people. Wuzhou tea market is mainly in the morning, but also in the afternoon and evening. Since 1930s and 1940s, the tea market has also provided refreshments, mainly including all kinds of steamed buns, cakes and steamed dumplings. Before eating in a restaurant, tea must be served first, and after eating, tea must be served for drinking and washing.

Arcade is a very common building in Guangdong and Guangxi. Wuzhou's arcade is the best preserved, and it is called "China Arcade Museum". It is the most distinctive historical building in Wuzhou. There are 22 arcades with a total length of seven kilometers, more than 560 arcades, and the longest arcade is more than 2000 meters. Qilou Street is the historical witness of Wuzhou, a century-old commercial port.
