Interesting place names in Rugao City, Jiangsu Province and their origins

The origin of some city and county names is briefly described as follows:

Jiangxi [Jiangxi]

Ganzhou is named after Zhangshui in the east and Gongshui in the west, and the city is between the two waters. The names of these two kinds of water are called "Gan".

During the period of Jingdezhen in Song Zhenzong, Jingdezhen was renamed as "Jingdezhen" because the words "Jingdezhen year system" appeared on the royal porcelain fired on the ground.

Wuyuan is named because it is located at the source of Wushui.

Fenyi was named after belonging to Yichun County.

Hengfeng is named after Hengfeng Mountain in the north of the county seat.

Zhejiang [Zhejiang]

It is said in Hangzhou that Dayu arrived here during the flood control and landed by plane, so "air" is homophonic with "Hangzhou", so it is called "Hangzhou".

Ningbo is named after its subordinate Dinghai County, which means "when the sea is fixed, it must be the time to remove bones".

Henan [Henan]

According to Kaifeng legend, in the Spring and Autumn Period, Zheng Zhuanggong ordered the construction of Kaifeng City as a place to store grain and millet, hence the name.

Xiuwu was named Yining in Shang Dynasty, and Zhou Wuwang cut it. He crossed the river from Jin Meng to the east. When it rained here, he stopped fighting for three days, and Yining was renamed Xiuwu.

According to legend, Yanshi was defeated by Zhou Wuwang, and the division was successful. At this point, the city was built instead of being a teacher, hence the name Yanshi.

Yanling is named after the ancient Yanling Tower.

Shanxi [Jin]

Hequ is named after its location at the bend of the Yellow River, which means "a thousand miles tune of the Yellow River".

Jiexiu Legend has it that when Jin Gong promoted Jiexiu in the Spring and Autumn Period, he did not talk about Lu, but hid in Jiexiu with his mother until his death.

Hence the name "Jiexiu".

Shenchi is named after Shenchi.

According to legend, when Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty reached this point, he heard that South Vietnam was broken and bought wenxi county.

Shandong [Shandong]

Jinan is called Jinan because the city is in the south of Gujishui.

Jinan has 72 springs since ancient times, so it is known as the "Spring City".

Yantai was an important place of coastal defense in the Ming Dynasty, and a beacon tower was set up to prevent Japanese pirates, so it was named Yantai.

Hebei [Hebei]

Hejian is named after the Hutuo River, where it is dry and cut off, Ziya River flows through the territory, and the county seat is located between the two rivers.

The paddock, formerly known as Mulan paddock ("Mulan" means Shaolu), was the hunting ground of the rulers of the Qing Dynasty, and was named "paddock" in the early years of Guangxu.

Fujian [Fujian]

Fuzhou Fuzhou is named after Fushan in the northwest of Fuzhou, which began in the eighth century of the Tang Dynasty.

Because many banyan trees are planted in the city, it is also called "Rongcheng".

In Wuchang, when the Eastern Han Dynasty offered the emperor, Sun Quan was named after the meaning of "prospering with martial arts".

Hankou is named because it is located at the mouth of Hanshui River.

After liberation, 1949 established Wuhan.

Yinchuan [Ning] The place name of Yinchuan comes from the description of the beautiful geographical scene of "Jiangnan" between Helan Mountain and the Yellow River.

Kunming [Yunnan] is named after Kunming, one of the ancient Yunnan nationalities.

Shennongjia [Hubei] According to legend, Shennong lived here in ancient times, cultivated, tasted all kinds of herbs and collected medicines to treat diseases.

Because of the high mountains and steep cliffs, even Shennongjia can only build a shelf, so it is called "Shennongjia".

Chifeng [Mongolia] is named after the red butte in China.

Xiuyan [Liao] Xiuyan refers to a mountain with caves. Xiuyan County is located on the coast of the Yellow Sea. Many caves are formed by rocks impacted by tidal waves, hence the name.

When the Three Kingdoms [Anhui] did nothing, Cao Cao and Sun Wu contended. Since then, Jiancheng has become an idle city.

Huangling [Shaanxi] According to legend, there is a crown tomb of the Yellow Emperor in Beiqiao Mountain in the city, hence the name.

Liuzhou [Guangxi] Liu Zongyuan, a writer of the Tang Dynasty, once lived here. In memory of him, he thought it was famous.

Zhongshan City (Guangdong Province), formerly known as Xiangshan County, was named on 1925 in memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a great revolutionary pioneer in China.

Jingyu County (Jilin Province) was originally named.
