Revealing history: Did Hu Shi fight against Japan?
As a pawn crossing the river, you can only rush forward desperately.

Hu Shi, one of the leaders of the New Culture Movement, was the first scholar to advocate vernacular Chinese and new poetry, which had a far-reaching influence on the trend of modern culture in China. His academic works, such as the History of Vernacular Literature and the Outline of China's Philosophy, have made great contributions to China's modern scholarship. Hu Shi, whom we are familiar with, is a scholar. But in Hu Shi's life, he existed as a politician for a long time. Especially in the period of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, it is no exaggeration to say that what Hu Shi did was related to the life and death of the country.

Go to the sea with national hatred and hatred.

1937 after the full-scale outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Hu Shi was sent to the United States as the ambassador to the United States. Although he fled the war-torn Chinese mainland, his nerves never relaxed from the moment he landed on the west coast of the United States. What he has to face is not a cruel and inhuman Japanese devil, but a stingy and selfish American.

Before Hu Shi went to America, he did not advocate declaring war on Japan. His thoughts were the same as those of many scholars including Chen Yinque at that time. Because, in their view, the strength gap between China and China is very big. If we rashly fight against Japan without any preparation, especially if it is unified on the surface, but warlords scuffle, it will lead to China's national subjugation and extinction. It's better to die than to live another day. However, at that time, the opinions of scholars such as Hu Shi were not adopted by the authorities. But after the July 7th Incident, Chiang Kai-shek published a controversial talk on Lushan Mountain at that time, which started the eight-year anti-Japanese war. Paradoxically, China entered the most difficult moment of the Anti-Japanese War after the fiasco of the four major battles on the frontal battlefield. At this time, Chen Yinque sent out such a feeling that "reading history early knows today's events and remembers last year's people." The right or wrong of this can only be judged by future generations.

The United States, another battlefield in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

Hu Shi, who arrived in the United States, had no fear of war, but his motherland was in flames of war, and he did not dare to neglect it at all. Because there are a large number of loyal executors of the mainland isolation policy in the US Congress, Hu Shi has repeatedly hit a wall in American politics. So Hu Shi changed his direction and chose the American people as a breakthrough, trying to win the sympathy of the American people and put pressure on the US Congress. Finally, after waiting for the general sympathy of the American people, the US Congress began to waver.

1938, Hu Shi finally persuaded the U.S. Treasury to reach an agreement to borrow money from the United States with tung oil as collateral. When the agreement was signed, it coincided with the defeat of Wuhan Battle in China. At this point, China has exhausted all technical weapons. Although Lu Zuofu was lucky enough to accomplish the feat of "Great Retreat in East Dunkirk", he was still not optimistic about the future of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Hu Shi's loan from the United States is undoubtedly a shot in the arm for dying China.

Japan's counterattack

When the Japanese heard that Hu Shi was going to the United States, they immediately responded and sent three scholars to the United States. They are writer Tsunami Yusuke, economist Kijiro Ishii and eloquence expert Matsui Ishii.

The Japanese knew Hu Shizhi's talent and ability, so they sent three scholars to try to overthrow Hu Shi from all directions and re-establish Japan's good image in the United States. However, with the changes in the world situation and the changes in the balance of power between Japan, the United States and China, the Japanese people's ambitions have further expanded. After making a full assessment, the United States slowly pointed its gun at Japan, although there was still a German-German tree that seemed unshakable at that time.

The dark cloud of war hangs over the White House, and the seemingly calm Pacific sky is actually strong enough to destroy the world. 1February 7, 942, Roosevelt secretly met with China's ambassador to the United States, Hu Shi, and revealed to Hu Shi that the United States would participate in the exhibition. Hu Shi breathed a sigh of relief when he learned the news. While secretly pleased with his mission, he suddenly got the news that the Japanese army had successfully attacked Pearl Harbor. The news was enough to shock the whole world, including Hu Shi, who was secretly pleased at this time, and Roosevelt, who had not had time to declare war on Japan.

History cannot be forgotten.

For a long time after the United States declared war on Japan, some American politicians who didn't want to face the reality blamed Hu Shi for the Pacific War. In their eyes, it was Hu Shi who used China's ancient skills of making love with people, which led to the confrontation between Japan and the United States. This is ridiculous, but it also proves Hu Shi's role in this game. It also confirms the poem written by Hu Shi when he first arrived in the United States: If he is a pawn crossing the river, he can only move forward desperately.

But the moon shines on the ditch

After the Pacific War broke out, * * * no longer needed Hu Shi's speech in exchange for American sympathy. Chiang Kai-shek, an anti-fascist who jumped to the semi-finals, began to reshuffle, and Kong Xiangxi, the No.2 figure, also took this opportunity to attack Hu Shi, saying that he didn't engage in politics when he was on the job and gave lectures everywhere to get a doctorate. After that, Song Ziwen became the ambassador to the United States and publicly alienated Hu Shi. Since then, although Hu Shi still stayed in the United States, he gradually moved away from politics and resumed his academic career.

It is worth pondering that Hu Shi copied such a passage in his diary: "Shen Feng said in nineteen times: I entrusted my heart to the bright moon, so why should the bright moon shine on the ditch?" Hu Shi, while playing games with American and Japanese politicians, also became a pawn of Song Jiang and Kong Chen. After he fought all over the world, all he left was a flash of light like fireworks.
