When it comes to the beautiful scenery of Yunnan, many people immediately think of the amorous feelings of Dali, the romance of Lijiang, the leisure of Kunming and the wild interest of Lugu Lake ... But there is one place that you should know and remember whether you have been there or not, and that is the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway.
This is a road of honor for China, and it is also a mysterious go on road trip line that passes through the beautiful scenery of China and Myanmar. Along the way, there are snow-capped mountains, canyons, forests and lakes, as well as ethnic minority villages with different characteristics, such as Bai, Jingpo and Naxi. When you go west along the highway, you will feel the splendor and history of Yunnan all the way!
What is the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway?
The Yunnan-Myanmar Highway starts from Kunming and crosses Yangbi River, Lancang River and Nujiang River. Cross the Hengduan Mountains such as Yunling, Nvshan and Gaoligong Mountain, and cross the western Yunnan Valley. Along the way, you can enjoy the most magnificent China. At the same time, it was also the most famous and important highway in China during the Anti-Japanese War, and was known as the "lifeline of the Anti-Japanese War".
Although today's Yunnan-Myanmar highway is not what it used to be, driving on this dangerous road can still feel the hardships of people building roads in those days.
Re-take the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway and feel the unforgettable history.
1937 when War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression broke out, the Japanese army quickly occupied the coastal cities of China, and the coastal traffic was blocked by the Japanese army. Neither international aid nor weapons can be transported inland. At the critical moment, the central government decided to build the "Yunnan-Myanmar Highway".
After the completion, most of the international aid will be transported to China via the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway. It can be said that without the Burma Road, China probably won't reach the United States. However, when people talk about the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway with relish, few people know how this road came from and the story behind it.
You may not think that this road was actually built by "laborers" living in neighboring ethnic groups at that time.
Men climb the cliff first, make holes, and blast rocks layer by layer. Then the old people, children and women below picked up the rubble, knocked it into small pieces and laid it on the road. The tools they used in the whole process were primitive tools such as hoes, axes, knives and dustpans.
They climbed over six mountains, eight cliffs and five rivers, forged this greatest road in the most simple way, and contributed to the war of resistance and national salvation. Finally, due to landslides, diseases, fatigue and falling off cliffs, no fewer than 3,000 road builders gave their precious lives. ...
When you are driving in the mountains of western Yunnan and on the Yunnan-Myanmar highway winding along the river or circling along the mountain, the road conditions will inevitably be bumpy, but you can feel the heaviest historical culture and vast natural scenery.

It is better to take advantage of this season, when the weather is just right and the breeze is not dry. Let's go to the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway, meet the magnificent scenery and recall the stirring history.
Along the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway, you can go to the scenic Heshun Ancient Town, Simiwadi and Xiapi, and then go to the border town of mangshi to pay homage to the Chinese Expeditionary Force ... and feel a different "south of colorful clouds".
Heshun ancient town, a secluded path
Heshun ancient town is close to Tengchong, and its customs and humanities are as the name suggests, warm and smooth. Here are the most tranquil pastoral poems and leisurely old times. Walking on the streets of the town, you meet quiet high-walled courtyards and amiable and polite people.
In ancient towns, the pace can be slowed down. If you have enough time, you can choose to stay in an inn, bask in the sun in your spare time, get close to nature, and then visit Heshun Library, Yunnan-Myanmar Anti-Japanese War Museum, Zhongtian Temple, Longtan and other places to enjoy a picturesque life.
Little Shangri-La in Simiwadi's Dream
On the way, you must go to Simiwadi to see the undeveloped "Xanadu". There are 2,000 acres of green grassland with flowing water. Under the clear sky and white clouds, cattle and sheep walk leisurely here, and time seems to stand still gently.
There are not only the original ecological treasure landscapes such as natural grasslands and swamps, but also unique humanistic customs. Ten minutes' walk along the highway from Simiwadi grassland leads to Xiamianpi, a primitive village where Lisu friends live.
"Up the mountain, down the sea of fire" and "DuDu Race", they still retain the primitive, vigorous, mysterious and traditional national customs.
Mangshi Border Town
Set aside a day to visit the legendary "City of Dawn"-mangshi. Full of exotic customs in Southeast Asia, warm and romantic.
Listen to the Sanskrit sound from the Dream Silver Tower, fly around it to the blue sky, and pray for God's blessing. Visiting the big garden in Bahners, I feel all this quietly, and my soul is a little silent.
Longling red education base
Longling has many relics of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, including War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression Memorial Hall, Songshan Battle Site, Japanese Bunker Site, Comfort Station Site, Japanese Command Site and Military and Political Course Site. This is an excellent red tour.
Take a trip to Huitong Bridge, the most legendary bridge on the Nujiang River. It used to be an important passage from Baoshan to Dehong and even overseas, and it was also one of the important bridges on the Yunnan-Myanmar highway.
An inch of mountains and rivers and an inch of blood, walking through the Yunnan-Myanmar highway, you can appreciate the profound meaning of this sentence.
Today, more than 80 years later, there are still many people who have embarked on this road again with awe. They crossed the mountains and swift rivers in the southwest of China, just to remember and pay tribute to those who had worked hard to build roads. Measure with your feet and pay tribute to this road carved with your fingers.
In the face of history, we should all have a heart of humility and awe. If there is an opportunity, I might as well go to Yunnan to find a monument of road builders engraved on the mountains and rivers, and take a real heroic road.
