The Central Business District is located in the former Wangjiadun Airport in Wuhan. The airport was the main airport in Hankou during the Republic of China, the main airport for Japanese air raids on Chongqing and Chengdu during World War II, and the airport used by the US Air Force. 1993 used to be an air force airport, but it can also be used for civilian use later. The airport is close to the center of Hankou, which affects the development of Hankou. Tianhe Airport was closed after its completion in 2007.
In 2007, the airport was handed over by the Air Force to the Wuhan Municipal Government, and the construction of Wangjiadun began.
