Songzi is located in the transitional zone where the residual veins of Jingmen branch of Wushan system and Shimen branch of Wulingshan system extend to Jianghan Plain. The terrain of this city is high in the west and low in the east. It is bounded by Liu Zhi Railway: the western part of it is the mountainous area of western Hubei, which falls to Jianghan Plain in four stages; Its eastern part is hilly plain, and the plain terrain is slightly inclined from north to south, forming the landform characteristics of mountain-hilly-plain, which can be summarized as "six mountains, one water and three fields"

The development of history
Songzi belonged to Jingzhou in ancient times, Chu in Warring States, Nanjun in Qin and Nanjun in Sui. In the fifth year of Emperor Gaozu (202 BC), a county named Gaocheng was established. In the 6th year of Jianwu in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 30), Gaocheng was cut down and merged into Liling (now Gongan County).
In the third year of Xiankang in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (AD 337), refugees from Songzi County (now susong county, Anhui Province) fled here, and overseas Chinese settled in Songzi County, whose name continues to this day.
In the first year of the Republic of China (19 12), Jingzhou Prefecture was ruled, and Songzi was directly in charge of the province.
After the founding of New China, it was under the administration of Jingzhou District, Hubei Province. The county governs the new estuary. 1996 May 18 Withdraw county to set up city.
