An old woman saw Zeng Guofan's head hanging high and said angrily, "What is this crime! Killing people is like shaving their heads. You shaved your head! " As a result, the old woman's angry words spread the nickname "once shaved"

Later, the Xiang army trained by Zeng Guofan suppressed the peasant rebels such as Taiping Army and killed more heads of the lower class poor. His nickname "Zeng shaved his head" spread wider, farther and deeper among the people.
