Surabaya was the main tributary of Huaihe River in ancient times. Many rivers, such as anti-water, Suishui, Tongshui and Yishui, once flowed into the Huaihe River at Sikou (near Wharf Town, Huaiyin District, Huai 'an City, also known as Qingkou) through Yutai County, Peixian County, Xuzhou City, Suqian City and Siyang County. Historically, Surabaya has long been a traffic tunnel connecting the Central Plains and the Jianghuai area, which was developed very early. During the confrontation between Song and Jin Dynasties, the Yellow River decided to invade the lower reaches of Surabaya in Xuzhou and the main stream of Huaihe River below Huai 'an, and Surabaya no longer exists in Jiangsu today. It was not until 1855 (the fifth year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty) that the Yellow River moved northward again. However, due to the large amount of sediment carried by the Yellow River, an abandoned Yellow River was left on the ancient road downstream of Surabaya, which was 4-6 meters higher than the ground on both sides.
