Putian City, Fujian Province used to be called Xinghua. Why did you change it to Putian? What does Putian mean?
Putian has a long history. As early as the Neolithic Age, there were human activities here. In Xia and Shang Dynasties, Putian belonged to Yangzhou, one of the "Kyushu". During the Western Zhou Dynasty, it was one of the "Seven Min". During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it belonged to Fujian and Vietnam. The Qin Dynasty is a part of the central county of Fujian. At the end of the Western Jin Dynasty, war broke out in the Central Plains, and a large number of gentry who went south brought advanced production technology and culture to the Central Plains, and worked together with local Fujian people and Vietnamese people to develop, which made Putian's economy and culture leap forward. In the second year of Chen Guangda in the Southern Dynasty (568), Putian began to establish a county. In the second year of Emperor Wu of the Tang Dynasty (699), Qingyuan County was established in the west of Putian (later renamed Xianyou County), and both Puxian counties belonged to Qingyuan County at that time (the county was governed in Quanzhou today). In the fourth year of Song Taiping's revival (979), Xinghua County was established in some areas such as Putian and Xianyou, and Taiping Army was established (Xinghua Army was restructured). In the eighth year of Taiping Renaissance (983), the military rule of Xinghua was moved from Youyang to Putian, which governed Putian, Xianyou and Xinghua counties. Putian has gradually become the political, economic and cultural center in central Fujian. In the second year of Song Jingyan (1277), Xinghua Army was promoted to Xing 'an Prefecture. It was renamed Xinghua Road in Yuan Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, it was changed to Xinghua Prefecture, Xinghua County was abolished, and its jurisdiction was merged into Puxian County. Qing Dynasty or Xinghua Prefecture. During the Republic of China, the abandoned government belonged to Lu Nan Road, Xiamen Road, Fujian Province, Xingquan Province and the fourth administrative supervision area of Fujian. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Puxian County was the fifth administrative supervision area in Fujian, including Jinjiang, Minhou and Putian. 1In September, 983, with the approval of the State Council, Putian was withdrawn from the district and set up a city, covering Chengxiang and Hanjiang districts and Putian and Xianyou counties, becoming a new city along the southeast coast of China. In May 2002, some administrative divisions were adjusted again, and some towns and villages in Putian County were divided into Chengxiang District and Hanjiang District respectively, and Licheng District and Xiuyu District were newly established. Putian now governs Chengxiang, Licheng, Hanjiang, Xiuyu and Xianyou counties. Putian refers to the place formed by the rising sea water, which can be cultivated, so it is called Putian (floating) field.
