According to legend, in the last years of Shang Dynasty, An Jun, a native of Dongyi, led the tribe south and built a moat for several years in order to avoid Zhou Wang's attack. Because it is surrounded by moats, it seems to be submerged in water, so it is called Yancheng.
Yancheng is magnificent. There are three earth walls in the site, which are divided into outer city, inner city and sub-city. Every city is surrounded by a moat, and there is only one exit passage to the west. The outer city is oval, with a circumference of about 2.5 kilometers, and the inner city and the sub-city are square. There are Yan Jun Temple, Paomagang, Ganlu City, Toudun, Doudun, Jiaodun, Yujing, Bell Ring, Longquan and other ancient scenic spots in the city. Among the hundreds of mounds scattered inside and outside the city, the head pier, abdomen pier and foot pier are the largest. In recent years, Yancheng has produced a large number of precious cultural relics such as geometrically imprinted pottery pots, jars, urns and bowls, including canoes, beautifully shaped bronzes, primitive celadon, pottery, etc., and is known as "the first ship in the world". Some unearthed cultural relics have been exhibited abroad and won favorable comments. 3000 years of ups and downs left a masterpiece of nature. Being involved is like entering a paradise. The water town in the south of the Yangtze River is clean and refreshing, and the splendid culture of the Chinese nation gives people an ancient, quiet and profound feeling. It is an excellent place for archaeology, leisure and holiday travel. No wonder there is a saying that "Beijing is seen in Ming and Qing Dynasties, Xi 'an in Sui and Tang Dynasties, and Yancheng in Spring and Autumn".
