Jiangxia history
As we all know, with the change of dynasties, the name of a city will change, just as Beijing used to be called Beijing, Nanjing and Beiping, and Xi 'an was called Xianyang. In fact, Wuhan began to have a name after the Republic of China. Wuhan was named after Jiangxia 2300 years ago, but why was it later renamed Wuhan? Bian Xiao will tell you in detail.

Wuhan is a special city. It is a city formed by the merger of Wuchang, Hanyang and Hankou. The rise of this city to the merger has also gone through a long process. As early as the Neolithic Age, archaeologists discovered the remains of ancient people living in Wuhan. The site of Panlongcheng in Shang and Zhou Dynasties was located in Huangpi County, Wuhan City 3,500 years ago.

Although the record of this place in Wuhan has already appeared in historical materials, the real establishment of Wuhan was in the period of Emperor Liu Bang of the Western Han Dynasty. At that time, Wuhan was named Shaxian County and Jiangxia County. The border map was not like this now, and the geographical scope was probably Wuchang now. At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, everyone wanted to compete for this place because of Jiangxia's dangerous terrain and good geographical advantages. At that time, Sun Quan moved the capital to Ezhou and renamed it Wuchang. Later, Xiakou City was built in Sheshan, Wuchang, which means that both Wuchang and Xiakou City belonged to Jiangxia County.

Hanyang and Wuchang were established at the same time. The Eastern Jin Dynasty belonged to Jiangxia County, and the Liang Dynasty was changed to Liang 'an County. The Sui Dynasty was renamed Hanyang County, which belonged to Fenyang County, hence the name Hanyang. In fact, there was a saying of Wuhan before the Ming Dynasty, but it was a general term for Wuchang County and Hanyang County. Wu refers to Wuchang County and Han refers to Hanyang County, also known as Twin Cities.

Hankou has always been a commercial center. In the Song Dynasty, it was as famous as Jingdezhen and Zhuxian Town. However, the real independence of Hankou was only determined during the Guangxu period. After the Opium War, Hankou was set up as a concession and consulate, and also became the most important trade port in this area. Among them, Hankou was renamed as Xiakouting and Xiakou County, and it was not until 1927 that Xiakou County was changed to Hankou City. At this time, the national government merged Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang into Jingzhao District and named it? Wuhan? . After liberation, the three towns in Wuhan were reorganized, and Wuchang City, Hankou City and Hanyang County were merged and named Wuhan City.

In fact, Wuhan has always had another nickname called Jiangcheng, which is attributed to Li Bai, a poet in the Tang Dynasty. One day, he visited the Yellow Crane Tower and was attracted by the scenery there. At that time, he wrote a poem, two of which were? The Jade Emperor blows the Yellow Crane Tower, and plum blossoms fall in Jiangcheng in May? . This poem spread widely. After listening to it, Wuhan people like the word Jiangcheng very much, so they often call themselves Jiangcheng people, and Jiangcheng has become another name for Wuhan.

Every city carries its own historical memory, and so does Wuhan. Although it may not be as rich in historical and cultural heritage as Nanjing, enjoy the reputation of the ancient capital of the 13th Dynasty as Ann, and have as rich cultural heritage as Beijing, it has a historical memory of more than 3,500 years. The Guqintai, which seeks bosom friends in high mountains and flowing water, Guiyuan Temple, which supports 500 arhats, and the Yellow Crane Tower, which stands at the top of Snake Mountain, witnessed the rise and fall of Wuhan, and were deeply branded with history.
