During the Three Kingdoms, the Jin Dynasty and the Southern and Northern Dynasties, a captain's wasteland and Yongping, Yongshi and Pingling counties were successively set up in the territory.
In the third year of Wude in Tang Gaozu (AD 620), Yongshi County was abandoned, and the land east of Lishui was restored to Liyang County. Since then, Liyang has been used as an administrative domain name.
During the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, Liyang was promoted to Lizhou, Liyang House, Liyang Road and Liyang House. During the Republic of China, Liyang County was successively subordinate to Jiangsu Provincial Administrative Office, Jinling Road, Jiangsu Provincial Government, Jiangsu No.1 Administrative Supervision District (the Commissioner's Office was located in Liyang County) and Jiangsu Jiangnan Administrative Office.
1949 Liyang was liberated, and Liyang County People's Government was established, which successively belonged to Wujin Administrative Division of Sunan Administrative Office, Changzhou Institution and Zhenjiang Institution.
1983 After the implementation of the system of city governing counties in March, Liyang County was under the jurisdiction of Changzhou City.
1August, 990, with the approval of the State Council, Liyang county was revoked and county-level liyang city was established.
