The US Consulate General in Chengdu was established in 1985, and its first office was located on the first floor of Jinjiang Hotel. Initially, the consulate had only six American officials and about 29 local employees. At that time, the consulate had only one administrative office (a consul general and an administrative assistant), a small office dealing with political, economic and commercial affairs, a consular office, a logistics office and a news and cultural office.

Compared with that year, today's consulate has grown to the scale of more than 200 employees, of which about 150 are China employees employed locally, which is the main force in our daily work, and many of them have worked in the consulate for many years.

Americans work here for a relatively short time, usually two to three years. They are all professional diplomats in the foreign affairs department of the United States, asking to work in Chengdu. More and more American officials can speak Chinese, which also reflects the general trend of the whole world and the most important bilateral relations in the world mentioned by the US government.
