Why is there such a big gap between Tongcheng and Zongyang?
Because there are few people in Zongyang, there are many geographical and economic reasons, as follows: This "Southeast Township", which once represented Tongcheng's past and integrated with Tongcheng, has been close to Tongcheng for more than 1000 years. But in the Republic of China, the undercurrent surged. Forty-four local gentry, including Chen and Fang Peiqing, signed the book "Setting Another County in Southeast Township of Tongcheng" in the provincial capital, and planned to build another "Xintong County" in Southeast Township (the original county site was planned, and its county territory was almost the same as that of Zongyang today). The result was not adopted, but Tongcheng did not escape the fate of being split in two. On the eve of the birth of New China, all Dongxiang, most Nanxiang and one Beixiang in Tongcheng were set aside and Tonglu County was established separately. At the beginning of the founding of New China, Tonglu County was renamed Hudong County. 1955, the county was moved from tanggou Town to Zongyang Town, and the name of Zongyang County was restored in Han Dynasty. It is said that Zongyang County was restored because it was far away from Tongcheng County. In wartime, it is difficult to report to the county town in time in case of emergency. Even if I knew, it was beyond my power. This separation has done great harm to Tongcheng, after all, both of them have cultivated and strengthened Tongcheng culture. Moreover, the departure of Zongyang made Tongcheng lose an important waterway along the river. With the annexation of Yan Fengying's hometown Luoling Town in the development of Anqing city, Tongcheng can only rely on a small "enclave"-Sturgeon Town to maintain its relationship with the Yangtze River.
