The folklore of Hutuo River includes stories such as Wang Mang and Liu Xiu.

1. It is said that at the end of the Western Han Dynasty, Wang Mang chased the border of Yimen Village in Anping County and saw a woman coming with a kettle. Liu Xiu stepped forward and said, "Sister, I am very thirsty. Let me have some water."

The woman said, "Please drink." Liu Xiu picked up the kettle to drink water. His soldiers also drank, but there was not much water in the pot. When Liu Xiu gave the kettle to the woman, she accidentally dropped it on the ground, and the water poured out. Time stopped and it became a river. People call this river "the pot overturns the river". Later, people renamed it Hutuo River according to the homonym of pouring the pot.

According to legend, at the end of the Western Han Dynasty, Wang Mang chased Liu Xiu to a vineyard in Yanhuiwo Village, Anping County, where a woman was watering grapes with buckets. Liu Xiu stepped forward and asked the woman to find a hiding place. The woman put down the bucket and pointed to the dense grape trellis. In a panic, Liu Xiu accidentally knocked over the bucket next to her, and the water spilled out and turned into a river.

Wang Mang chased him across the river, but he couldn't cross it. Liu Xiu took the opportunity to escape. Because this river originated under the grape trellis, people call it "Grape River". Later, according to the homonym of grapes, it was changed to Hutuo River.
