The Historical Origin of Bamboo Carving
Long before the invention of paper, ink, pen and inkstone, China's ancestors had learned to engrave words on posts with knives to record. This primitive bamboo carving should be earlier than Oracle Bone Inscriptions. Because, Oracle Bone Inscriptions already has the three elements of calligraphy art, and the so-called bamboo notes were originally carved only with symbols.

In ancient times, bamboo did not grow in the Central Plains and North China, so it was carved with animal bones. In the south, bamboo is abundant, so symbols or characters are carved on it. But bamboo tubes are not easy to preserve, not as good as animal bones.

So after a long time, I was lucky enough to see the remains of Oracle Bone Inscriptions in Shang Dynasty, but it was hard to see the bamboo carvings at that time. However, according to the records in ancient literature, there is no doubt that the origin of bamboo carving art in China appeared long before the Shang Dynasty.
