The four major water towns in the south of the Yangtze River are Zhouzhuang, Xitang, Tongli and Wuzhen.

Zhouzhuang 1

Zhouzhuang, a small town in the south of the Yangtze River, has the reputation of "the first water town in China" and is the first batch of 5A scenic spots in China. Zhouzhuang was founded in 1086 (the first year of Northern Song Dynasty), and was named after Mr. Zhou Digong, a Yi citizen, donated land to build Quanfu Temple. During the Spring and Autumn Period, it was a fief for the Prince of Wu, named Zhenfengli.

2. Xitang

Xitang has a long history and is one of the birthplaces of ancient Wuyue culture. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it was the border between wuyue and China, so it was called "Wu Gen's Corner Crossing" and "Corner Crossing". Tongli Town, one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, was originally named "Futu", which was changed to Tongli in the early Tang Dynasty and Tongli in the Song Dynasty. 4. Wuzhen

Wuzhen is located at the northern end of Tongxiang City, Zhejiang Province, with Huzhou City in the west and Wujiang District in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province in the north. It is the junction of two provinces and three cities. Wuzhen was originally divided into Wuqin and Hexi Wuzhen, belonging to Wucheng County, Huzhou Prefecture. Hedong is a green town, which belongs to Tongxiang County, Jiaxing Prefecture. After liberation, Wuzhen, west of Shihe River, was placed under Tongxiang County and was called Wuzhen. The whole town governs 13 community neighborhood committees and 18 administrative villages.
