Historical Records is a biographical history book written by Sima Qian, a historian of the Western Han Dynasty. It is the first biographical general history in the history of China, which records the history of four years and more than 3,000 years from the legendary Huangdi era to the early years of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. In the first year of Taichu (BC 104), Sima Qian began to create Taishi Gongshu, later called Shiji. This book was used for 14 years before and after completion.
2. Ban Gu: Hanshu
Hanshu mainly describes the history of 232 years from the first year of Qin Ershi (209 BC) to the fourth year of Emperor Wang Mang of the new dynasty (23 AD). Hanshu has 70 biographies in total 12, 8 tables 10, with a total of 100 articles. Later generations divided it into 120 volumes, with a total of 800,000 words.
3. Ouyang Xiu: "History of the New Five Dynasties"
There are 74 volumes in the book, including biography 12, biography 45, textual research 3, biographical chronicle 1 1, and Siyi appendix 3. It recorded the history of 53 years from the first year of Kaiping, Hou Liang (907) to the seventh year of Xiande, Houzhou (960). When the New History of the Five Dynasties was compiled, historical materials that were not found in the Old History of the Five Dynasties were added, such as the Conference of the Five Dynasties and the Supplement to the History of the Five Dynasties, so the content was more detailed.
4. Sima Guang: Purple Tongzhi Sword
Zi Tong Zhi Jian is a multi-volume chronological history book edited by Sima Guang, a historian of the Northern Song Dynasty, with a total of 294 volumes, which took 19 years to complete. It is mainly about time and events, which began in the 23rd year of Zhou Weilie (403 BC) and ended in the 6th year of Xiande, Zhou Shizong after the Five Dynasties (959 AD), covering the history of Sixteen Dynasties 1.362 years.
5. Huang Zongxi: "Song and Yuan Learning Cases"
The History of the Three Kingdoms was first circulated in three books: Shu Wei, Shu Shu and Wu Shu. In the Northern and Southern Dynasties, in order to avoid confusion between Shu Wei written by Cao Wei and Shu Wei written by the Northern Wei Dynasty, the three books of Xianping Six Years (1003) in the Northern Song Dynasty were merged into one and finally completed.
Therefore, the history of the Three Kingdoms is the product of cultural reintegration after the split of the Three Kingdoms. This book completely describes the historical panorama of China from division to unification in the last hundred years from the end of Han Dynasty to the beginning of Jin Dynasty.
