The Origin of Suzhou Sanyuanfang
The origin of Suzhou Sanyuan Square is as follows:

Sanyuanfang was built for Bai Qian, the first scholar in Suzhou in Qing Dynasty. Bai Qian won three yuan in the imperial examination during the Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, and his hometown built it for him, hence the name Sanyuanfang.

Sanyuanfang is a traditional place name in south-central Suzhou, located from Xinshi Road to Shuyuan Lane, Renmin Road. People's Road (formerly Hulong Street) in Miaowendong, Suzhou, the original Sanyuanfang archway was "Lianyuan Sanyuanfang" to commemorate Baiqian in the 46th year of Qing Qianlong (178 1), so people used to call this section of Hulong Street "Sanyuanfang". In fact, Sanyuanfang is still a part of Hulong Street.

The south and north of it are Hulong Street, but the geographical map of Suzhou City, the new map of Suzhou in 193 1 and the latest map of Suzhou in 1949 all marked this section as Sanyuanfang. 195 1 When Renmin Road was widened, Sanyuanfang archway was demolished, but Sanyuanfang still retained Suzhou dialect and was used as the bus stop name.

Suzhou is one of the first 24 national historical and cultural cities, a famous water town in the south of the Yangtze River, and has the reputation of "paradise on earth". Suzhou city was founded in 5 14 BC, with a history of more than 2500 years.

In 589 AD, Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty renamed Wujun in Gusu Mountain as Suzhou. Suzhou gusu district is the first national historical and cultural city protection zone in China. Since the construction of Greentown in Wu Zixu in the Spring and Autumn Period, Suzhou ancient city has basically maintained a double chessboard pattern of "land and water parallel, river and street adjacent", with its unique features of "small bridges and flowing water, white walls and tiles, and historical gardens".

Block status:

Now it is part of Renmin Road. Sanyuanfang Road is a traditional cultural and educational area, including Fu Xue, Ziyang Academy, Zhengyi Academy, Suzhou Library, Suzhou Middle School, Suzhou Experimental Primary School, Suzhou Institute of Technology, Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts and Suzhou Medical College.

Built in this section, the existing Confucian Temple (Fu Xue) has Suzhou Inscription Museum and Antique Market. Sanyuanfang Station of Suzhou Rail Transit Line 4 is located in this plot.
