Historical evolution of Tunchang
According to legend, Tunchang was originally a wasteland, and there were frequent wars in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. People who fled the southeast coast of China fled to the south to reclaim wasteland for prosperity, hence the name "Tunchang".

Tunchang is a newly established county. Its predecessor was announced by Qiongya District Party Committee at the second executive committee meeting on February, 2007 1948+07. It consists of two districts of Chengmai County (now Xichang Township) and six districts of Qiongshan County (now Xinxing Town, Datong Township, Tunchang Town, Huangling Township, Tengzhai Township and Nankun Town). 1On February 2, 949, Dingxi Special Zone was established in Lu Nan, Wupo, Mu Feng, Beihai and Lingmen Township (equivalent to county-level organizational system).

1950 In May, Dingxi Special Zone was merged into Xinmin County. With the same name as Xinmin County in Liaoning Province, 1952, the State Council renamed Xinmin County as "Tunchang" for the convenience of management. Tunchang Municipal People's Government in Tunchang Town.
