Samuel or Shmu'el) means "to be heard by God". Samuel's mother's name was Hannah, one of Elkanah's two wives. Hannah was barren before Samuel was born. She prayed for a son and vowed that if her prayers were answered by God, she would give her son to God. Therefore, when Samuel was weaned, he was taken to the temple and devoted himself to working there (see 1 Samuel 1: 10-28). Samuel stood before the Lord under the guidance of Eli the priest, wearing a linen ephod. As he grew older, God and people liked him more and more (chapter 2: 6). Later, when the words of the Lord were scarce and needed no inspiration, he was called by the Lord four times and answered, "Please speak, your servant is listening" (Chapter 3: 1). Samuel had established a close relationship with God since he was a child. When Samuel grew up, the Lord was with him, so nothing he said was in vain. At this time, Samuel was both a prophet, a priest and a judge, so he spread the word hinted by the Lord to the land of Israel (Chapter 3: 20-2 1), and offered burnt offerings to God on behalf of the Israelites, and toured every year, including Bethel, Gilgal, Mizpah and Ramah. Under Samuel's dedicated leadership, the following two achievements have been achieved: 1. The people turned their hearts to God-Israel obeyed Samuel and got rid of foreign gods such as Baal and Ashdod, and the whole family turned to the Lord, turning their hearts to him and serving him alone (Chapter 7: 3-4). 2. Conquer the land lost by the enemy-God helped the Israelites conquer the invading Philistines and made them afraid to enter the territory of Israel; Then he attacked the Philistines of Schet and took the previously lost cities.
All these cities were recovered from Ekron to Gath. Samuel's success as a leader is not unrelated to his complete obedience and execution of God's commands. Besides, he can pray when he is in trouble, so it is natural to call on God. As the saying goes, "trust in the Lord with all your heart, not in your own wisdom." Whatever you do, know him, and he will guide your way "(Proverbs 3: 5-7). When Samuel was old, he made his two sons judges of Israel. Unfortunately, his sons don't believe in his ways, but their greed for money and the integrity of bribery compromise have led the elders of Israel to gather and demand a king to rule them (see Chapter 8: 1-22). Later, under the guidance of God, Euler Ma anointed Saul as the first king of Israel, and later anointed David to succeed Saul as king in Bethlehem (chapter 16: 3). Samuel was faithful to God all his life, which can be seen from the confession to the people in Chapter 12. Among the biblical characters, there are many people who have lost their virginity, and Samuel not only lived an innocent life, but also lived into old age, as shown in the following figure: 1. Cultivate a group of prophets-no one has always been the achilles heel of a group. Samuel cultivated not only a prophet, but a group of prophets, which made the religious relationship between God and man continue (chapter 19: 20). 2. Keep praying for the people-it may be common to pray for others, but it is not easy to pray all the time since childhood. Samuel's enduring love and concern for the people is admirable (chapter 12: 23). 3. Blame Saul twice-most elderly people don't care about the world and don't want to get into trouble, but Samuel's duty has not been ignored because he is old, nor has he fought for silence because he is the king above all else. Samuel, it's time to talk.
Never avoid it.
