Yongji city belongs to Yuncheng City. Geographically, yongji city is located at the southwest end of Shanxi Province, which is the junction of North China, Northwest China and Central Plains. It is the regional center of Shanxi, Qin and Henan, facing Dali County and Heyang County of Shaanxi Province across the Yellow River in the west, bordering Ruicheng County in the south, Yuncheng City in the east and Linyi County in the north. Yongji city has a long history and rich culture, and is one of the important birthplaces of the Chinese nation.

Gupu Prefecture in yongji city is near the Yellow River. It was an important town in ancient times and was once the capital of Jianzhong. It is one of the six ancient cities in China.
