How to capture the vicissitudes of ancient architecture history?
Architectural photography needs to shoot objects with either formal beauty or rich cultural connotation. As a special architectural form, the ancient buildings in China have recorded the splendid culture of the Chinese nation for thousands of years, with rich cultural connotations and unique forms. Knowing the historical and cultural background of ancient buildings before shooting can better show their characteristics and charm.

Shoot with a wide-angle lens

The volume of ancient buildings is generally large, so it is often difficult to capture the panoramic view of the whole building with ordinary lenses, especially in places with limited shooting locations, and it is impossible to achieve the goal of shooting the panoramic view by moving the distance. At this time, it is best to shoot with a wide-angle lens. Wide-angle lens can not only shoot a wider picture at close range, but also deform the photographed building, exaggerate the visual effect of the building and make the building more imposing.

In order to strengthen the wide-angle effect, the shooting angle can be minimized, and different shooting angles can make the visual effect of the picture more novel.

The focal length of the wide-angle lens should be at least 18mm, so that the focal length can produce a wide-angle effect on the camera in APS. C format, equivalent to the focal length of 28mm on a full-frame camera. If you use a full-frame camera, the wide-angle effect of 18mm focal length is already very obvious.

Shoot the Hall of Prayer in Tiantan Park with a wide-angle lens, narrow the shooting angle, take the palace lantern as the foreground, and the deformation effect brought by the wide angle makes the picture more tense.

Using a wide-angle lens to shoot the Forbidden City turret after the snow, only with a wide-angle lens can we take a panoramic view of the Forbidden City turret, the city wall and the moat. Through post-cutting, the upper and lower redundant parts are removed to make a wide frame effect.

The angle of shooting ancient buildings

Take a high angle/crane lens

Ancient buildings generally do not exist alone, but a large-scale building complex. An ancient building complex like the Forbidden City is very suitable for showing the scale of the whole building complex from a high angle through aerial photography.

If you want to use a large number of categories to show the whole picture of a building or group of buildings, then overhead shooting is an essential shooting angle. Only by standing in a higher position can we have a broader vision and shoot the whole picture of ancient buildings or buildings. It is best to have a wide-angle lens when shooting a panoramic view of the building, so as to get a wider angle of view, otherwise there will be a long shooting distance.

Shoot up

The vertical lines of buildings can converge upward through low-angle backhand, forming a strong sense of perspective, thus showing the height and majesty of ancient buildings and increasing the sense of stability of buildings. This method is often used when shooting tower-shaped ancient buildings. Be careful not to tilt the picture when shooting, otherwise the building will give people the illusion of falling.

Tower-shaped and cylindrical ancient buildings should be photographed upwards to show the height and majesty of the building.

It shows the panorama of ancient buildings from a higher angle, and the momentum of the building is also displayed. If the shooting distance is far, use a telephoto lens to shoot, otherwise the picture will appear insufficient space.
