Why did Juyanhai dry up?
With the diversion of Heihe River, the amount of water injected into the lake by Ejina River, the main recharge source, decreased, and the Juyan Sea gradually dried up.

Ejina Banner is a banner under the jurisdiction of Alxa League in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China, and it is one of the three largest Populus euphratica forests in the world. On the first day, after visiting Populus euphratica forest, Ejina Banner tasted hand-grabbed mutton and roasted mutton. Besides enjoying Populus euphratica, you can also visit Juyanhai and Zeke Port.
Depart from Populus euphratica forest in the early morning and drive about 1 hour (about 50 kilometers) to Juyanhai in the north of Ejina Banner.
Juyanhai is the tail lake of Heihe River, the second largest inland river in China. It was called Juyanze in Han Dynasty and Juyanhai in Tang Dynasty. It originates from Heihe River in the depths of Qilian Mountain, flows through more than 800 kilometers in Qinghai, Gansu and Inner Mongolia provinces, and then flows into two Gobi depressions on the northwest edge of Badain Jaran Desert, forming two lakes, namely Juyanhai. Juyanhai area is rich in aquatic plants, which is the only way for the Mongolian Plateau to reach Hexi and the Western Regions. Therefore, it is not only an important stronghold for Huns to contact Waqiang and Hehuang Qiang to attack the Han Dynasty, but also a frontier position for the Han Dynasty to attack Huns. Juyan, a Hun language, was translated into weak quicksand in Water Mirror Notes. It was called Juyanze in Han Dynasty, Beihai in Wei and Jin Dynasties and Juyanhai in Tang Dynasty.
Ejina River is an ancient weak water that gurgles down from Qilian Mountain. With the melting of the snow and ice on Qilian Mountain, it flows into the rushing river and rushes into the Badain Jaran Desert to replenish abundant rain, extending to the northern end of Ejina Banner like a glittering ribbon.
It is a miracle that the turbid weak water flows to Juyanhai and becomes so clear! It was completely unexpected. Juyanhai is like a sapphire inlaid by heaven for the desert Gobi, and sweet rain and dew are sprinkled on this thirsty land.
Flocks of red-billed gulls frolic on the sparkling water, attracting tourists to take pictures of them with long guns and short guns! Very lively!
Legend has it that this is where Lao Tzu became an immortal. I rode a bronze statue of a green cow. Against the blue sky and white clouds, it was so carefree. "Man, earth, heaven, heaven and Taoism are natural."

On the banks covered with reeds, the footprints of Su Wu herding sheep, fluttering clothes and wandering footsteps have been integrated into the rough brushwork of historians.
The autumn wind jumps over the microwave on the water surface, as if it still echoes the crisp of horseshoes. The backs of Huo Qubing and Wei Qing, the generals of the Han Dynasty, seemed faintly visible.
