Looking at the maps of Tang and Song Dynasties, we will be surprised to find that the jurisdiction of Guangxi has always been larger than that of Guangdong, and it is much larger. Lingnan East Road (the embryonic form of Guangdong today) established in the middle and late Tang Dynasty only includes the Pearl River Delta, eastern Guangdong and northern Guangdong, excluding western Guangdong. Lingnan West Road (the embryonic form of Guangxi today) includes not only the whole of Guangxi today, but also western Guangdong, Hainan and Annan.

Even in the Song Dynasty, Guangnan West Road (Guangxi for short) no longer included the present Annan area, but it still included the whole of Guangxi, western Guangdong and Hainan. Guangnan East Road (Guangdong for short) has little change compared with Lingnan East Road in the middle and late Tang Dynasty (the embryonic form of Guangdong today). It still only includes the Pearl River Delta region, eastern Guangdong and northern Guangdong, excluding western Guangdong.

2. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Guangxi was small and Guangdong was big;

However, in the Ming Dynasty, the painting style in the areas under the jurisdiction of Guangdong and Guangxi changed. Guangxi has changed from a vast area to a narrow area, and Guangdong has changed from a narrow area to a vast area. It really answers the old saying of China: thirty years in the east and thirty years in the west.

And all this is because of a historical celebrity, that is, Zhu Yuanzhang and Ming Taizu. I don't know why. Some people say it is because of the need of coastal defense, while others say it is because of suppressing the Yao uprising in Guangxi. Anyway, Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, just waved his hand, and the Guangdong Chengxuan Bureau and the Ministry of Ambassadors established in the Ming Dynasty changed from having only the Pearl River Delta region, eastern Guangdong and northern Guangdong to including the whole Guangdong region, Hainan and Qinbei in Guangxi.

The newly established Guangxi Chengxuan bureaucratic department is a tragedy. It has lost the Annan area in history, and now it has lost not only Hainan and western Guangdong, but also its own coastal area (now Qinbei Defence Area in Guangxi). Guangxi has changed from an atmospheric coastal province to a miserable inland province.
