When it is placed on its side, it becomes a primitive bronze drum that can be beaten. The bronze drum unearthed in Wanjiaba, Chuyou, Yunnan, has traces of smoke at the bottom, which just shows that it evolved from a copper kettle.

According to archaeological evidence, Wanjiaba bronze drum in Chuxiong, Yunnan Province is the largest bronze drum in the world, dating from 690-90 BC, quite early in the Spring and Autumn Period.
