Suzhou is the birthplace of Wu culture.
Suzhou, called Wu in ancient times, is called Su for short, and also called Gusu and Pingjiang. It is a national historical and cultural city, a scenic tourist city, a national high-tech industrial base, one of the important central cities of Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, a central city of G60 Science and Technology Corridor and an important part of Jiangsu Yangtze River Economic Belt, and has the reputation of "paradise on earth".

Pingtan, Kunqu Opera and Su Ju are also called "three flowers" of Suzhou culture, and Kunqu Opera is "the representative work of human oral and intangible heritage".
