The Historical Evolution of the Name of "China People"
The etymology of "Chinese" is "language and writing", and the abbreviation "Chinese" appeared in11980s. After the May 4th Movement broke out, it advocated vernacular Chinese and opposed classical Chinese. The word "Chinese" is widely used, and the word "Chinese course" appears. After the national liberation, Ye Shengtao and others proposed that "Mandarin" and "Chinese" should be merged into one and renamed as "Chinese". This proposal was adopted by the education authorities of the North China government and then extended to the whole country.
