At present, there are three major archaeological institutions in China: university system, museum system and archaeological research institute system.
The information of university system is relatively easy to obtain. At present, about 30 universities in China offer archaeology, cultural relics, cultural relics research or other related majors. Among them, Peking University, Jilin University, Shandong University and Sun Yat-sen University are the best. Fudan University in Shanghai offers a major in culture and art.. Although it is not deep, it has achieved good results.
Museums and archaeological systems are distributed in various administrative regions of China, with slight differences among regions. All provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government have museums, which are the most authoritative cultural relics research institutions in the province. Shanghai Museum is now an internationally renowned museum, and its strength in cultural relics research, especially in painting and calligraphy and bronze ware research, is a leader. In addition, the highest-level museums in China include China National Museum, Shaanxi Provincial Museum, Henan Provincial Museum and Nanjing Museum.
Most provincial units in China have archaeological research institutes, which are mainly responsible for the excavation, protection and research of underground cultural relics in this area. Because it can occupy the latest unearthed materials, the level of cultural relics research is also very high. The best research institutes in China are the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the China Institute of Cultural Relics (formerly China Institute of Cultural Relics). Provincial scientific research institutes are not convenient for horizontal comparison, but they all have quite high scientific research level. However, there is no archaeological research institute in Shanghai, and the archaeological work in Shanghai is the responsibility of the Archaeological Department of Shanghai Museum. Similar situations still exist in Nanjing Museum, Fujian Museum and Hubei Museum.
The establishment of cultural relics research institutions below the provincial level is more complicated. Please ask me specifically if you need it.
